- Rolling pin
- 1/4” measuring sticks
- Rib tool

- Brush
Preparation
Select oval pottery form sizes.
Step 1
Clay Slab
Roll out a 1/4” slab of clay using a rolling pin and measuring sticks.
Compress clay slab with a rib tool.
Step 2
Oval Form
Drape the clay slab over the oval form.
Gently shape the clay slab around the oval form using hands.
Step 3
Rim
Cut an organic line around the perimeter of the oval form using the roller cutter tool.
Remove the excess clay from around the edges of the plate’s rim.
Repeat the process for all the various size oval forms.
Step 4
Harden
Allow the clay to stiffen to a leather hard stage while leaving the pottery forms in place. Once hardened, turn forms over.
Gently remove the pottery forms.
Step 5
Smooth
Use a damp sponge to smooth away any imperfections from the clay dishes.
Step 6
Dry
Allow the clay dishes to fully dry. Drying time will vary depending on temperature and humidity.
Step 7
Bisque Fire
Fire clay in the kiln to cone 04.
Step 8
Glaze
Apply glaze according to manufacturer’s directions.
Step 9
Glaze Fire
Fire the glazed pieces in the kiln. Follow manufacturer’s firing guidelines.
